Mount Washington is the highest peak in the Northeastern US, and is known for its high winds and particularly bad weather. The Peak is part of Mt. Washington State Park, with the surrounding area part of the National Forest. The road up there is privately owned (and quite expensive to drive). It's worth it for the great views, though. The real challenge is to hike up on the Appalachian Trail, which many people had done on the day I was there.
